RecoveryATX To Host 3rd Annual Recovery On The Field Softball Tourney

Wristband Bros recently had the pleasure of chatting with Michael Ware, a board member of RecoveryATX. The organization is based in Austin, Texas and provides community support for those recovering and coping with drug and alcohol addiction. They designed a wristband for their Recovery On The Field Softball Tournament being held September 9th.

They plan on handing out these wristbands to all the participants of the softball tournament as a way to commemorate the games. It sounds like it’s going to be a great event with a positive community impact.

Here are a few excerpts from Michael’s talk with us:

What’s RecoveryATX’s mission statement?

Our mission is to strengthen the recovery community by providing educational opportunities and support services.

As a recovery community organization (RCO) we are an independent, non-profit organization led and governed by representatives of a local community of recovery. We organize recovery-focused activities, carry out recovery-focused community education and outreach programs, and provide peer-based recovery support services. The broadly defined recovery community – people in long-term recovery, their families, friends and allies, including recovery-focused addiction and recovery professionals – includes organizations whose members reflect religious, spiritual and secular pathways of recovery. The sole mission of an RCO is to mobilize resources within and outside of the recovery community to increase the prevalence and quality of long-term recovery from alcohol and other drug addiction. Public education and peer-based recovery support services are the strategies through which this mission is achieved.

What are the organizations short and long-term goals?

Short Term: Expand the activities we currently offer to the recovery community.

Our long-term goal is to continue to unify the recovery community by using the spirit of collaboration as our guide.

Special hat-tip to: Michael Ware (board member and our contact for this posting), Joseph Sanchez (President & Co-Founder of RecoveryATX), Co-Founders Scott Darby & Patsy Pena and board members Dante Battaglia, Angie Long, Merlissa Alfred and Meredith Jones. Board member in spirit, Mikel Stapleton. Thanks for sharing with us and for running a great community resource!
