Without their interactions, we’ve got a loner dude who does crazy stuff and probably dies in the first season. The show just doesn’t work without her! It would be like saying Watson isn’t an important or equal component in BBC’s Sherlock. I like that show mostly because of their friendship. I wonder how those two are compensated… Would be an interesting comparison. I’ll have to dig into that.

I’m pretty sure I remember Chris Carter saying that he thought of The X-Files as Scully’s story, primarily. The show begins when she joins the X-Files, and we’re meant to see the cases through her eyes.
