As I was meandering along the many twists, turns and hyperlinks that make up that wonderous place we call the internet, I came across a grassroots charity that just passed a huge milestone. Chase Away K9 Cancer recently surpassed $1 million dollars in donations. That’s an incredible number that most startup non-profits never reach. It’s a testament to a lot of hard work that began years ago on a dock in Oregon.
Facebook recently added a “Donate Now” call-to-action button for non-profit pages. Hooray! Break out the bubbly. It’s an all-night non-profit party and we’re not stopping ’til the sun comes up!
Hold on just a minute there, Speedy McSpeederston. Before we knock down the Statue of Liberty and replace it with a bust of Mark Zuckerberg, let’s analyze this new fangled “Donate Now” button a little closer. Does this announcement truly add up to a win for charities everywhere? Or is the social media giant the one with the most to gain?

As a custom wristband company, charities are one of our main customer bases. We sell customized wristbands for events all the time. So it’s great to hear that 50% of all charities hold these events. We’d like to see that number at closer to 90%, but we won’t pout too much. At least not in front of you. I’ll find a quiet corner once I’m done writing this blog.
